Australian pork producers, processors, researchers and scientists gathered on the Gold Coast today for Pan Pacific Pork Expo 2014.<\/p>\n

The expo combines a pork industry trade show and exhibition with information sessions supported by Australian Pork Limited (APL) and Pork CRC Limited.<\/p>\n

It is being held today and tomorrow at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre.<\/p>\n

John Coward, from Pork Queensland, told ABC Rural today that Queensland producers remained hopeful despite the high cost of grain.<\/p>\n

He said with grain prices between $80 and $100 a ton, Queensland producers were earning up to $40 less per pig than their southern counterparts.<\/p>\n

The conference attendees will also hear from researchers about the latest trends and technologies in the industry, particularly APL and Pork CRC Limited research outcomes.<\/p>\n

Topics covered include sow housing, biogas, human nutrition, food safety and quality assurance.<\/p>\n
