Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington is promoting an awareness campaign which urges homeowners and tradies to stop and think before working in a roof space.<\/p>\n

This follows the deaths of three Queenslanders who were killed while installing insulation during the Federal Government’s failed home insulation campaign.<\/p>\n

The State Government ordered a Coronial inquest into the deaths of Matthew Fuller, Rueben Barnes and Mitchell Sweeney.<\/p>\n

Following a key recommendation from the inquest, the State Government has now begun the campaign to help prevent further tragedies.<\/p>\n

“TV, radio, newspaper and billboard ads have already hit the airwaves and printers, carrying a simple message: ‘Stay safer up there, switch off down here’,” Mrs Frecklignton said.<\/p>\n

“There are serious electrical safety risks in our ceilings and the best and simplest way people can make them safer is to turn off all of the main power at the switchboard before climbing up there.<\/p>\n

“Free stickers, which are designed for ceiling manholes and switchboards, will also remind DIY homeowners or tradies to switch off the power before climbing into a roof.<\/p>\n

“They will be available in major hardware stores and local electricians, with a homeowner\u2019s permission, will also be able to apply them in homes they work in.<\/p>\n

“I urge everyone to stay safer up there by switching off down here. It is a simple safety precaution that can save their life.”<\/p>\n
