About 70 producers gathered near Alice Creek on Saturday to hear results from the four-year Meat & Livestock Australia “Cash Cow” project and how they can applied to local beef cattle herds.<\/p>\n

The day was hosted by Jim Cross on his ‘Sapling Springs’ property.<\/p>\n

Prof Mike McGowan, from the University of Queensland Gatton, was the lead scientist in the Cash Cow project,\u00a0which collected data from more than 150 properties throughout Queensland and the Northern Territory.<\/p>\n

He discussed cow reproduction, especially nutritional care of weaners and ways to improve the body scores needed to get a cow back into calf.<\/p>\n

Other guest speakers were DAFF Senior Extension Officer Damien O\u2019Sullivan and Queensland Biosecurity officer John Higgins.<\/p>\n

Jim Cross, who produces store steers at ‘Sapling Springs’, also shared his experience with handling weaners.<\/p>\n
