It’s always a BIG night in Nanango and the champagne opening night of the 8th annual Big Screen Festival on Friday lived up to expectations.<\/p>\n

The big star this year was Gold Logie award-winning actor John Wood, who’s been a familiar face on small screens for decades.<\/p>\n

However, it’s his exploits on the big screen which are being highlighted at this year’s festival with the screening of the short film “Waiting For Robbo” on Friday night and the comedy “Backyard Ashes” on Saturday night.<\/p>\n

The Nanango Cultural Centre was packed for the red carpet opening night, with guests enjoying finger food and drinks from the bar before entering the auditorium to watch John and “Waiting For Robbo” director Simon Weaving introduce the new Australian film “Healing”, which stars Simon’s brother Hugo.<\/p>\n

Earlier, John attended a welcome function held at the recently renovated Ringsfield House where he was introduced to representatives from sponsors Heritage Nanango Community Branch\u00a0and the South Burnett Regional Council.<\/p>\n

The Big Screen Festival will continue over the weekend.<\/strong><\/p>\n

On Saturday afternoon, the Aussie classic \u201cThe Squatter\u2019s Daughter\u201d by legendary director Ken G. Hall will be screened at 2:00pm.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Man from Cox\u2019s River\u201d, a story about wild brumbies saved from destruction, screens on Sunday at noon and is followed by \u201cTracks\u201d, the acclaimed film of an epic journey across the desert, based on Queensland-born Robyn Davidson\u2019s international best-selling book, at 2:30pm.<\/p>\n

Family-friendly screenings include \u201cGinger Meggs\u201d on Saturday at 11:00am and the blockbuster \u201cThe Lego Movie\u201d on Sunday at 10:00am.<\/p>\n

There will also be films screened at the Satellite Cinema in Kingaroy, when The Lego Movie plays on Sunday at 11:00am, followed by Satellite Boy at 2:00pm.<\/p>\n

Tickets to all events will be available at the door before each session unless sold out.<\/strong><\/p>\n
