Women across the South Burnett are embracing Queensland Health\u2019s free breast screen service, with numbers exceeding the annual screening target.<\/p>\n

Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington said 14,190 breast screens had been carried out across the Darling Downs Hospital and Health Service region between July 2013 and March 31 this year.<\/p>\n

\u201cResearch shows having regular, two-yearly breast screens is still the most effective way to detect breast cancer early,\u201d Mrs Frecklington said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am delighted to see so many ladies taking up this service, and I encourage all women aged 50-74 years of age to book an appointment.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe annual screening target for the Darling Downs health area is 18,000, and these early numbers show we are well on the way to meeting it.”<\/p>\n

BreastScreen Queensland provides free breast cancer screening to women aged 50 to 74, while women in their 40s and over the age of 75 can also access screening.<\/p>\n
