The RACQ’s Keys2drive program offers young learner drivers a free, fully paid lesson with a driving instructor<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Almost 19,000 learner drivers in Queensland have participated in a national driving program which kicked off in 2010 but the RACQ is urging more L-platers to join the ranks to boost their safety on the roads.<\/p>\n

The program, known as “Keys2drive”, provides learner drivers and their parents\/supervisors with a free one-hour driving lesson with an accredited professional driving instructor that focuses on road safety and is tailored to the needs of the learners.<\/p>\n

RACQ Executive Manager Driver Education Scott Lewin<\/strong> said young drivers aged between 17 and 24 were over-represented in the State’s road toll.<\/p>\n

“Keys2drive is another component in the learning to drive process that helps equip young drivers with the skills, knowledge and awareness they need to maximise their safety on the roads,” Mr Lewin said.<\/p>\n

“It’s a great opportunity to have an extra driving lesson with an accredited professional driving instructor that combines both theory and practice \u2013 and it costs you nothing.<\/p>\n

“As spectators during the lesson, parents have the chance to see how their child is progressing behind the wheel, and to hear the instructor’s feedback.<\/p>\n

“The learner driver has the opportunity to take some initiative and drive where they choose without being spoon fed directions, but under the guidance of a professional instructor.”<\/p>\n

Funded by the Federal Government, Keys2drive was developed by the Australian Automobile Association in association with the RACQ and other motoring clubs around Australia.<\/p>\n
