Nanango’s streetscaping is expected to be completed by the end of December.<\/p>\n

The ambitious $1.4 million project was announced in August 2013 and was originally planned for completion by June 30 this year.<\/p>\n

It includes the upgrade of the Scott Car Park – now done – and improvements to Henry, Drayton and Fitzroy streets in the town’s CBD.<\/p>\n

Nanango will also be getting its first set of traffic lights at the junction of Drayton and Henry streets, courtesy of the Department of Main Roads.<\/p>\n

However, the need to replace the former Drayton Street timber bridge with a pre-cast concrete bridge and longer-than-expected construction times for the Drayton Street traffic lights have thrown a spanner into the original schedules.<\/p>\n

Council officers have now been instructed to have the project completed by the end of the year.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Cr Barry Green, who had pushed for the upgrade for many years to revitalise the town centre, said today he was disappointed the work was taking longer than planned but remained confident the end result would be worth it.<\/p>\n

“The work that’s been done of the Scott Car Park has been generally well received,” he said.<\/p>\n

“The car park is now very well used, including by me – I park there whenever I need to do my shopping.<\/p>\n

“I’m sure the rest of the project will completely transform the town centre. We just have to wait a bit longer because it’s a very complex task.”<\/p>\n
