The iconic Ban Ban Springs sign located near the junction of the Burnett and Isis Highways is currently being restored.<\/p>\n

The sign acknowledges the nearby springs, of great significance to the Wakka Wakka people, from which waters flow into the nearby Barambah Creek.<\/p>\n

The springs, a traditional stopping place for travellers, are the first place in Queensland to have been formally registered as an Aboriginal cultural heritage site.<\/p>\n

North Burnett Regional Council Mayor Don Waugh said barricades had been erected around the original structure by the Department of Transport and Main Roads due to safety concerns.<\/p>\n

\u201cCouncil, on behalf of the Department of Transport and Main Roads is currently restoring parts of the sign and will replace the structural framework in its entirety.\u201d<\/p>\n

Works on the sign are expected to be completed by the end of this month, weather permitting.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
