Nanango gave the Cherbourg Hornets a scare in the second half of their U16s match<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

May 12, 2014<\/strong><\/p>\n

There was no senior rugby league played in the South Burnett at the weekend due to the 47th Battalion carnival in Gladstone, but a full round of junior league was played at Wondai, Murgon and Cherbourg.<\/p>\n

The U16s match at Cherbourg between the Hornets and the Nanango Stags proved to be a highlight of the round after Nanango found new life in the second half.<\/p>\n

At half-time, Cherbourg were ahead with a clear margin, 28-6, but in the second stanza Nanango came out with all guns blazing to score four tries back-to-back.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately for Stags’ fans, they simply ran out of time.<\/p>\n

With just 52 seconds left on the clock, Jackson Craft crossed the line for Nanango.<\/p>\n

The kick was good and the full-time score was Cherbourg 34, Nanango 30.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, the 47th Battalion Trophy Carnival in Gladstone at the weekend proved tough going for the Northern Wide Bay team which included a number of South Burnett players in the squad.<\/strong><\/p>\n

On Saturday, Sunshine Coast defeated Northern Wide Bay 34-0; Wide Bay then backed up in the afternoon against eventual tournament winners Toowoomba and were overwhelmed 42-0.<\/p>\n

On Sunday, Wide Bay were behind 34-4 when the game was called off early after one of the Gladstone players injured his shoulder.<\/p>\n
