After almost five decades in nursing, Darling Downs Hospital and Health Service (DDHHS) Executive Director of Nursing and Midwifery Services, Ms Judy March, is now looking towards retirement.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith celebrations for International Nurses Day happening this week it seemed like a fitting time to make\u00a0the announcement,\u201d Ms March said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have had 48 years in the profession, the last 14 of those \u00a0in Toowoomba.\u201d<\/p>\n

In 2000, after spending the previous 20 years working at the Gold Coast Hospital, Ms March started at\u00a0Toowoomba Hospital as Director of Nursing (DON) and District Director of Nursing.<\/p>\n

In the ensuing years\u00a0the position has evolved to become Executive Director of Nursing and Midwifery Services for the Darling\u00a0Downs Hospital and Health Service, which includes all hospitals in the South Burnett.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo become a DON was a professional goal and has been the pinnacle of my nursing career, so when I\u00a0had the opportunity to come to Toowoomba I jumped at it,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

DDHHS Chief Executive Dr Peter Bristow said Ms March would leave very large shoes to fill when she\u00a0retired in a few months time.<\/p>\n

He said recruiting to find a new Executive Director of Nursing and Midwifery Services would begin soon.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
