Kingaroy Town Hall will be hosting a regional round of the school instrumental music competition, “Fanfare 2014”, on June 3.<\/p>\n

Education Minister John-Paul Langbroek said nearly 700 ensembles from more than 400 schools would perform on local stages throughout May and June, competing for one of 11 places in the State Festival in Brisbane in August.<\/p>\n

A decision in 2012 by the State Government to scrap Fanfare was greeted with dismay by parents, students and music teachers but the popular competition was “saved” when businessman\u00a0Harvey Lister, from AEG Ogden, stumped up $150,000 to keep it going.<\/p>\n

Mr Langbroek confirmed today that AEG Ogden was again sponsoring this year’s event.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe biennial Fanfare program is close to the hearts of many Queensland families, with more than 120,000 students taking part since it began in 1985,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cFanfare is a wonderful example of how public-private partnerships in education can truly benefit young Queenslanders.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhile the Newman Government is working hard to revitalise frontline services and improve student outcomes, corporate investment in programs like Fanfare is helping to enhance the overall educational experience for Queensland students.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Queensland instrumental program is a highly-regarded and valued component of Queensland state schooling and Fanfare enables schools to show off their programs.\u201d<\/p>\n

The top five school ensembles will be chosen at the State Festival to play in the grand final concert at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre on August 8.<\/p>\n
