getting closer to solving the problem of Levers Road at Tablelands.<\/p>\n<p>A catastrophic landslip in June last year forced the Council to close the road and divert traffic along Crownthorpe, Carters and Daniels roads.<\/p>\n<p>Council engineers feared the complete collapse of the road was imminent.<\/p>\n<p>In December, local residents who attended a public meeting at Tablelands Hall were told there were three possible solutions for getting the road re-opened:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A &#8220;like-for-like&#8221; replacement of the road, which would require reinforcing sections of the road with concrete pylons; council officers estimated this could cost as much as $4.5 million, or close to 10 per cent of the South Burnett Regional Council\u2019s annual budget.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>A reworking of the road on a new alignment; this would involve some land resumptions but was estimated to cost roughly one-third of the &#8220;like-for-like&#8221; option<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Leaving the road closed, and diverting traffic along Carters and Daniels roads; this would be a low-cost option for the Council but one that would require some affected landholders to travel as much as eight kilometres further.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The meeting was told the cost of the first option made it unlikely the Council would be able to undertake the project.<\/p>\n<p>Voting for the other two options was split evenly amongst attendees.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Council will now hold a second public consultation meeting at Tablelands Hall between 6:30pm and 8:30pm on Wednesday, May 14 to update residents on further investigations into the two options.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Acting Mayor Cr Keith Campbell told <strong>southburnett.com.au<\/strong> this week that it was likely the road would be rebuilt on a new alignment.<\/p>\n<p>This would involve resuming some land from an adjoining property holder.<\/p>\n<p>However, he said a final decision would
