Kingaroy Hospital will be celebrating the work of midwives next Monday, the International Day of the Midwife.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe day is a great chance to show our appreciation for the fantastic care that midwives provide and the role they play in bringing new life into the world,\u201d Kingaroy Hospital director of nursing and facility manager Mark White said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe sub-theme for this year\u2019s celebration is \u2018Midwives, changing the world one family at a time\u2019.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is designed to reinforce the message that the work midwives do all over the world helps to save the lives of mothers and babies every day.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mr White said a barbecue lunch would be held at Kingaroy Hospital to mark the occasion.<\/p>\n

\u201cMidwives are an integral part of our community so we\u2019ve invited all staff to a join us for lunch in the rotunda opposite the canteen at Kingaroy Hospital, from noon to 1:30pm.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur midwives support the busiest non-specialist birthing service in Queensland, with 424 births in 2013 and 133 up until the end of last week.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt Kingaroy Hospital we have shown our commitment to increasing our capacity by establishing a student midwife position.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mr White said International Day of the Midwife was a great opportunity to show support for midwives not only in the local area, but worldwide.<\/p>\n

The first International Day of the Midwife was celebrated in 1991. It is now observed in more than 50 countries.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
