Following the recent upgrade of Nanango’s Scott Car Park, the South Burnett Regional Council is considering a similar upgrade for Kingaroy’s ageing Glendon Street Car Park in its upcoming 2014-15 Budget.<\/p>\n

Acting Mayor Cr Keith Campbell said yesterday that “ideas on the table” included resealing the car park and installing some shade sails to provide all-weather protection for vehicles.<\/p>\n

The Council would also upgrade the existing playground area and the car park’s toilets, and make the site more friendly for aged and disabled patrons.<\/p>\n

As part of the upgrade, Council would improve access to the rear of the Foodworks supermarket as well as shops in Haly Street and Kingaroy Street which have rear door entrances facing the parking area.<\/p>\n

If the plan gains public approval, Council would also turn the existing Kingaroy Street loading zone near Pharmacy Essentials into a disabled car parking bay, and relocate the loading bay area to the rear of the Kingaroy Street shops.<\/p>\n

“At present there isn’t a disabled car parking bay in Kingaroy Street,” Cr Campbell said.<\/p>\n

“This imposes an unreasonable burden on disabled people in our community who want to access local shops, cafes and pharmacies.”<\/p>\n

The Council is also considering refurbishing the existing Community Health Building and Glendon Street Bus Depot near the car park to “blend in” with the Council complex across the street, creating a civic precinct in the heart of the CBD.<\/p>\n

Cr Campbell said the current state of the car park was “run down” and reflected poorly on the town.<\/p>\n

The Scott Car Park upgrade had proven popular with Nanango residents, and he hoped an upgrade to the Glendon Street Car Park would be just as popular with Kingaroy residents.<\/p>\n

The idea for the upgrade has come out of the Council’s current Budget deliberations but has yet to be formally decided upon.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
