{"id":6567,"date":"2012-07-15T19:36:35","date_gmt":"2012-07-15T09:36:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/?p=6567"},"modified":"2021-02-01T10:22:15","modified_gmt":"2021-02-01T00:22:15","slug":"road-works-is-your-road-on-the-list","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/2012\/07\/15\/road-works-is-your-road-on-the-list\/","title":{"rendered":"Road Works: Is Your Road On The List?"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_6570\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6570\" style=\"width: 740px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/roadworks.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-6570\" title=\"Road Works\" src=\"http:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/roadworks.jpg\" alt=\"Road Works\" width=\"740\" height=\"460\" srcset=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/roadworks.jpg 620w, https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/roadworks-300x186.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 740px) 100vw, 740px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-6570\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The SBRC will spend a record amount on road works in the region over the coming 12 months<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>July 15, 2012<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The South Burnett Regional Council will spend more than <strong>58 per cent<\/strong> of its 2012-13 Budget repairing and upgrading the region&#8217;s roads, water supply and waste water infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p>The $42 million in SBRC outlays will be topped this year up by an extra $47 million from the State and Federal governments for flood damage repairs.<\/p>\n<p>This will bring total spending on infrastructure repairs and improvements to $89 million over the coming 12 months &#8211; a record for the four-year-old Council.<\/p>\n<p>But even without the one-off flood assistance monies, the forecast expenditure represents a 20.5 per cent increase on last year&#8217;s outlays.<\/p>\n<p>In handing down the SBRC&#8217;s 2012-13 Budget <a href=\"http:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/2012\/07\/sbrc-mayors-2012-13-budget-address\/\"><strong>last Wednesday, July 11<\/strong><\/a>, South Burnett <strong>Mayor Wayne Kratzmann<\/strong> said that &#8220;during the election campaign the state of our roads was clearly the number one priority raised by South Burnett residents&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>He said this year&#8217;s Budget was &#8220;acting on our promise to deliver&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Apart from roads, the Council will also spend $10.7 million on regional water and waste water assets.<\/p>\n<p>This represents the start of a multi-year program to fully upgrade the region&#8217;s 70-year-old water and sewerage infrastructure, which is rapidly approaching the end of its working life.<\/p>\n<p>The Council estimates the total cost of fully upgrading these assets could run as high as $80 million.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;No one pays much attention when when you turn on your tap and water comes out or your toilet flushes properly,&#8221; the Mayor told the Budget meeting, &#8220;but everyone notices when they don&#8217;t. So we need to work on this area to ensure that everything keeps working as it should into the future.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Over the coming year the Council will also spend $2.2 million on plant and vehicle
