Yalari, the not-for-profit educational organisation founded by former Cherbourg resident Waverley Stanley in 2005, was today named as a finalist in the 2014 Queensland Reconciliation Awards.<\/p>\n

International law firm Herbert Smith Freehills and Yalari<\/strong><\/a> have been jointly nominated in the “Partnership” section of the awards.<\/p>\n

Herbert Smith Freehills has partnered with Yalari since 2005 to support the group’s mission to educate and empower indigenous children from regional, rural and remote communities.<\/p>\n

Yalari is a not-for-profit organisation that offers secondary education scholarships at Australia\u2019s leading boarding schools for indigenous children from remote, rural and regional communitie<\/p>\n

In 2013, the partnership refreshed its strategic outlook and developed the national CYCLE partnership, a collaboration with Yalari to “connect, lead and excel”.<\/p>\n

Herbert Smith Freehills provides legal services, expertise in corporate governance and professional resources to Yalari.<\/p>\n

Staff also volunteer to assist with tutoring, mentoring and providing one-on-one business skills and networking advice to the students.<\/p>\n

Premier Campbell Newman announced the finalists for the Reconciliation Awards today.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am delighted to recognise the businesses, community organisations, educational institutions and partnership projects that are turning reconciliation into real action,\u201d Mr Newman said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis year we received more nominations than ever before, with fantastic submissions from across the State.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe finalists highlight the tireless commitment and enthusiasm for reconciliation within our communities.\u201d<\/p>\n
