Kingaroy residents set new records for attendance at this year’s Anzac Day commemorations, with a large crowd at the Dawn Service, and an even greater assembly for the procession and morning observance.<\/p>\n

The traditional parade, which began outside the Kingaroy RSL Club, wound its way to Memorial Park to the applause of onlookers on the footpath.<\/p>\n

Retired Major Nigel Goulding and Kingaroy-Memerambi RSL Sub-branch president Don Davey took the salute.<\/p>\n

As well as a strong contingent of ex-service personnel – both marching and ferried in cars – the march was joined by a large number of school students, \u00a0representatives from various community groups and members of the general public.<\/p>\n

At the park, Major Allan Kerr, from the Salvation Army, read the opening prayer before the Kingaroy State High School choir, accompanied by the school’s concert band, performed several hymns.<\/p>\n

Kingaroy SHS captains Taylor Crossley and Simon Fairbairn read the resolutions, while St Mary’s Catholic College captains \u00a0Cassie Firman and Gabriel Crane, joined by Mr Michael Bellam, read the Roll of Honour.<\/p>\n

Kingaroy SHS trumpeter Eloise Mashford played the Last Post and Rouse.<\/p>\n

Guest speaker Major Nigel Goulding (ret.), who served for 35 years in the Australian Navy, spoke about the significance of Anzac Day commemorations.<\/p>\n

He said the day was not to celebrate battles or glorify war, but rather to remember those Australians who have gone before us, their sacrifice and service.<\/p>\n
