April 27, 2014<\/strong><\/p>\n

Many other towns and villages throughout the South Burnett marked Anzac Day with Dawn Services, morning commemorations or marches.<\/p>\n

Here are a selection:<\/p>\n

At Blackbutt<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Blackbutt and Benarkin commemorated Anzac Day with a Dawn Service at the Blackbutt Cenotaph at 4:27am followed by a gunfire breakfast at the Blackbutt RSL.<\/p>\n

Later in the day a parade and a Commemoration Service was held at the corner of Muir and Douglas streets followed by a wreath-laying at the Memorial.<\/p>\n

At Boondooma<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The Durong and Boondooma communities commemorated Anzac Day with a march, service and wreath-laying ceremony at the historic Boondooma Homestead on Anzac Day morning.<\/p>\n

Many visitors to the area, taking part in the Bush Balladeers Muster at the Homestead, joined in the commemoration.<\/p>\n

At Cherbourg<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Cherbourg residents gathered at the town’s war memorial at 8:00am on Anzac Day for a service.<\/p>\n

Records show 29 Cherbourg men enlisted to serve in World War I, and 19 in World War II. Cherbourg residents also saw action in Korea and Vietnam.<\/p>\n

At Kumbia<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Kumbia’s annual Anzac Day observance included a parade from the flower garden at the northern end of Bell Street and a service at the monument outside the Memorial Hall.<\/p>\n

At Proston<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Proston was another South Burnett town to host a Dawn Service on Friday morning. Local residents gathered at 5:30am at the RSL Rooms in Collingwood Street for a wreath-laying ceremony.<\/p>\n

At Wooroolin<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Wooroolin’s Anzac Day service was held in the Wooroolin Memorial Hall.<\/p>\n

The morning was compered by Cr Ros Heit and the guest speaker was Martin Boettcher who spoke about what Anzac Day means to a new immigrant.<\/p>\n

Yarraman’s Anzac Day commemorations started as the fog began to lift in the early hours of the morning.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Residents trooped down in numbers for the Dawn Service at the town\u2019s cenotaph.<\/p>\n

The catafalque party mounted position at the obelisk before the Last Post sounded at 6:00am.<\/p>\n

The welcome address was delivered by RSL Sub-Branch President Terry Reid, and Pastor Maurie Fielke led the crowd in prayer.<\/p>\n

Former Bomber Command air gunner Paul Tunn laid the official wreath on behalf of all armed services.<\/p>\n

Ex-service personnel and their families then adjourned for a Gunfire Breakfast at Yarraman\u2019s Memorial Hall.<\/p>\n

Commemorations resumed at 10:45am with a march along\u00a0Toomey Street to the cenotaph, which was followed by another service and wreath-laying.<\/p>\n
