John Wood … coming to Nanango<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Much-loved Australian actor John Wood will be coming to Nanango on May 16-18 for this year\u2019s Big Screen Film Festival.<\/p>\n

The Logie-award winning actor – probably best known for his role as Snr Sgt Tom Croydon in “Blue Heelers” – will be the special guest star at the opening night red carpet event at the Nanango Cultural Centre on Friday, May 16.<\/p>\n

John’s career has spanned several decades including the TV hits “Rafferty\u2019s Rules” and the recent ABC series “The Dr Blake Mysteries”.<\/p>\n

He will introduce the opening night feature film, “Healing”, as well as his short film, “Waiting for Robbo”.<\/p>\n

The Big Screen Film Festival is being brought to the South Burnett by the National Film and Sound Archive of Australia in partnership with South Burnett Regional Council. It is supported by the Heritage Nanango Community Bank and Screen Queensland.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cWe are very excited that John Wood will be here in Nanango to be a part of this fantastic event,\u201d Heritage Nanango Community Funding chairman Wendy Zerbst said.<\/p>\n

\u201cSince Heritage Nanango began sponsoring this event, we have been able to assist the organisers to bring Sigrid Thornton, Martin Sacks, Magda Szubanski, and now John Wood to Nanango to introduce us to a great variety of films.\u201d<\/p>\n

Big Screen Co-ordinator Annie Parnell said there would be a number of opportunities to meet John.<\/p>\n

On Saturday, May 17, John will introduce a new Australian comedy film, “Backyard Ashes”, at a gala fundraiser for drought relief.<\/strong><\/p>\n

There’s some backyard cricket fun planned with John before the film starts.<\/p>\n

This year’s Big Screen Film Festival also includes several sessions for younger viewers, including screenings at both Nanango and the Kingaroy of the new hit, “The Lego Movie”, which features animation from Australian company Animal Logic. Shorts from the NFSA collection and ABC Open will screen with most films.<\/p>\n

Tickets to all events and sessions at the Nanango Cultural Centre are available from the South Burnett Regional Council offices and Thorps Showcase Jewellers in Kingaroy Shoppingworld, and at the door before each session.<\/p>\n

Tickets for screenings at the Satellite Cinema in Kingaroy are available at the cinema.<\/p>\n
