Almost 30 works from South Burnett, North Burnett and Fraser Coast artists have been entered in this year’s South Burnett Regional Council Acquisitive Art Competition.<\/p>\n

The 2014 Acquisitive theme is “The Great War 100 Years Ago” and the winners of the popular competition will be sharing in $2000 prize money.<\/p>\n

This year’s theme was chosen to coincide with the 100th anniversary of the start of the First World War, and the Kingaroy-Memerambi RSL sub-branch have donated $500 for an additional People’s Choice Award.<\/p>\n

While judging of the major awards has already taken place, voting in the People’s Choice Award will be accepted up until 7:00pm on opening night, Friday April 11.<\/p>\n

“We are very excited to be hosting this art competition and the level of talent is fantastic,” Mayor Wayne Kratzmann said today.<\/p>\n

“The response has been great.”<\/p>\n

Gallery curator Fiona Kemp said the standard of entries in this year’s Acquisitive is also very high.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“Many of the artists who’ve submitted works this year have won state, national and international awards. The works cover a wide variety of media and comments from visitors who’ve seen the exhibition already have been very favourable,” she said.<\/p>\n

“I think most people who come along will be impressed. It’s a great show.”<\/p>\n

The winning entry will become part of the Council’s permanent art collection.<\/p>\n

Doors will open at 6:00pm and the winners will be announced at 7:00pm.<\/p>\n

Admission to the opening night is free, and refreshments will be served.<\/p>\n

Afterwards, the exhibition will remain on display at the Gallery until Sunday, April 27.<\/p>\n

Footnote:<\/strong> Next year’s Acquisitive is also expected to have a First World War theme, but on a more specific topic. The 2015 theme will be announced later this year.<\/p>\n
