The Million Paws Walk – RSPCA Queensland\u2019s largest fundraising event of the year – will be back and bigger than ever in 2014.<\/p>\n

This year more than 17,000 people are expected to take part in the walk on Sunday, May 18, at 26 locations across Queensland.<\/p>\n

The South Burnett Million Paws Walk will be held at Memorial Park in Kingaroy.<\/p>\n

RSPCA Queensland is hoping to raise $250,000 for dogs in need through this year’s event.<\/p>\n

Nearly 45,000 animals pass through the RSPCA’s Queensland Animal Care Centres every year, and more than 18,000 are dogs that have been surrendered, abandoned or seized by inspectors.<\/p>\n

These dogs are not as fortunate as your much-loved family pet, the RSPCA says.<\/p>\n

They often need to be desexed and vaccinated before they have the chance to find a new home.<\/p>\n

The money raised through The Million Paws Walk enables these dogs to receive daily care and veterinary treatment, and then helps fund their rehoming programs.<\/p>\n

This year RSPCA Queensland is encouraging Million Paws Walk participants to try to raise $150 each. <\/strong><\/p>\n

“Our annual operating costs are $39 million in Queensland, and we receive less than 1 per cent of that figure in government funding. So every cent raised helps,” RSPCA Qld spokesperson Michael Beatty said.<\/p>\n

“When you join the Million Paws Walk you support a community of dog lovers, helping all abused dogs get the second chance they deserve, while enjoying a fun day out with your best friend.<\/p>\n

“It’s cheaper and easier to register online before the day. And don’t forget, even if you can’t walk you can still fundraise!”<\/p>\n

The major sponsor of this year\u2019s event is Hill\u2019s Pet Nutrition, the makers of Hill\u2019s Science Diet and Hill\u2019s Prescription Diet.<\/p>\n

As the official nutritional partner of the RSPCA, Hill\u2019s Pet Nutrition has provided Hill\u2019s Science Diet to all shelter animals awaiting adoption since 1997.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
