The historic Yarraman Hotel-Motel in Margaret Street celebrated its 102nd birthday on Saturday with a day packed full of activities.<\/p>\n

The pub can trace its history back to the earliest years of Yarraman township.<\/p>\n

But rumour has it that it didn’t always front onto Margaret Street.<\/p>\n

Apparently – so the story goes – the main road used to pass to the back of the hotel.<\/p>\n

But when the location of the road changed, the pub was lifted up off its stumps and turned around to face the new direction.<\/p>\n

This would be enough to get any drinker’s head spinning!<\/p>\n

Current publicans Michael Andreassen and Lisa Woods have been in charge of the Yarraman Hotel-Motel for the past three years.<\/p>\n

To celebrate the pub’s birthday, they organised rides, face-painting and a climbing wall at the rear of the hotel to keep the youngsters happy, while their parents enjoyed live music from Ryder and Adam Kilpatrick.<\/p>\n

A lunchtime barbecue was supplied by the Yarraman Progress Association.<\/p>\n

A highlight of the day and night’s entertainment were crab races, organised by Jeff Hayes from Hayes Pots & Products on the Gold Coast.<\/p>\n

Jeff brought along 20 live mudcrabs with him from Brisbane who played special roles in the celebrations.<\/p>\n

The crabs, individually numbered, took part in crab races during the afternoon before starring in a cook-up later in the evening.<\/p>\n
