{"id":61953,"date":"2014-03-29T08:05:01","date_gmt":"2014-03-28T22:05:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/?p=61953"},"modified":"2014-04-05T00:43:30","modified_gmt":"2014-04-04T14:43:30","slug":"south-burnett-bowls-news-29","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/2014\/03\/29\/south-burnett-bowls-news-29\/","title":{"rendered":"South Burnett Bowls News: 29-Mar-14"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"mceTemp\">\n<dl id=\"attachment_53256\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\" style=\"width: 310px;\">\n<dt class=\"wp-caption-dt\"><a href=\"http:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/bowlsdinkus.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-53256\" title=\"SB Bowls dinkus \" src=\"http:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/bowlsdinkus.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" \/><\/a><\/dt>\n<dd class=\"wp-caption-dd\"><\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong>by Jim Bond<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.4who.org.au\/\" target=\"_blank\">Wild Horse 99.7FM<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>March 29, 2014<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>What\u2019s been happening, you ask? <\/p>\n<p>Well, it\u2019s been raining &#8211; which is good weather for ducks, farmers and bowling greens but a real hazard for bowls games directors trying to satisfy club members.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, this week&#8217;s rain threw a bit of a spanner in the works for club championship matches at most clubs.<\/p>\n<p>Still I&#8217;m sure most people were glad to see the rain, all things considered.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>* * *<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>Peranga news:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A big weekend at Peranga last Saturday and Sunday with their Men\u2019s Fours Carnival.<\/p>\n<p>Sixteen teams from all over South East Queensland and players from 17 clubs took part over 5 rounds with 5 points for a win and 1 for each end won. <\/p>\n<p>The trophy for the overall winner was the John Wolski memorial provided by Audrey Wolski, and it was won by Alby Gibbs from Millmerran with 74 points. <\/p>\n<p>Runner up was the North Dalby team, skipped by Doug Flegler with 66 points. <\/p>\n<p>Third in the contest was the Yarraman side &#8211; George Wolski, Merv Fitch, Brian Dugdell and John Moore who racked up 63 and a half points.<\/p>\n<p>The run-down of round winners shows the popularity of this annual event: winners came from South Toowoomba (Mick Gills); Peranga (Arnold Collins), Drayton (Arthur Telford); Crows Nest (Trevor Gillies) and Pittsworth (Graham McDonald).<\/p>\n<p>Well done, Peranga &#8211; and thanks to Barry Reithmuller for his report. <\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>* * *<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>Yarraman news:<\/strong> <\/p>\n<p>Last Saturday seven teams from Yarraman and five from Nanango fought out the monthly triples contest.<\/p>\n<p>Nanango finished with bragging rights, and the best effort for the day came from Bob Hall, Woody Hammond and Ben Pratap with 46 points,<\/p>\n<p>Runners up were Mike Wyvill, Ev Jensen and Josh Pogson 44; and third place went to Brian Havell and Henry Bleisner with 36 points on a countback from Warren Arthur, Delvyn Powys and Doris Drew.<\/p>\n<p>Some other scores of interest:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Nev Lawrence, John McConnell and Keith Carroll &#8211; 34\n<li>Athol Jensen, Glen Yeates and Lew Saunders &#8211; 32\n<li>Kerry Knowles, Lorri Holmes and Kay Dugdell &#8211; 32\n<li>Horst Meyer, Leo Robinson and Ron Lucas &#8211; 30\n<li>Neil Currell, Todd Currell and Sandra Currell &#8211; 26\n<li>Daphne Stewart, Doreen Fitch and Charlie Oglivie &#8211; 22\n<li>Kev Profke, Bev Profke and Tom Johnson &#8211; 14\n<li>John Beattie, Allison Anderson and Eunice Smith &#8211; 14\n<\/ul>\n<p>Thursday night of last week saw a good roll-up for night bowls, with six new players taking to the greens.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Winners were Brian Dugdell, Arthur Smith and Ashleigh Canniford, who defeated Kev Profke, Tom Clarke and Chantelle Duggan 29-9 (12 ends to 5)\n<li>Runners-up were Bev Profke, Eunice Smith and Jorden Browe who defeated Lorri Holmes, Marge Clarke and Chantelle Duggan 16-9 (10 ends to 7)\n<li>Another score of interest was George Wolski, Margaret Willoughby, Kerry Walsh and Tanika Wilson who defeated  Neil Johnston, Wayne Emms, Kenny Walsh and Josh Lean 11-4.\n<\/ul>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>* * *<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>Kingaroy news:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In last Thursday&#8217;s matches:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Darcy Munro and Kev Raffin 24 def. Barry O&#8217;Brien and Ross Olsson 14\n<li>Col McBride, Gladys Slatter and Richie Patterson 30 def. Fred Keding, Lyle Dascombe and Hugh Harrison 15\n<li>Harry Read, Irene Smith and Dave Clapperton 21 def. Keith Muller, Bob Bougoure and Ray Maclaren 15\n<\/ul>\n<p>And last Sunday, fourteen teams participated in the monthly Jackpot Pairs competition.<\/p>\n<p>Each team played 2 games of 18 ends and the winners were determined by the number of games won and the combined margin.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Winners: Lester Newman and Mark Williams &#8211; 2 wins plus 29 margin\n<li>Runners Up: Dave Barwick and Ben Pratap &#8211; 2 wins plus 15 margin\n<\/ul>\n<p>A countback on the number of ends won was required to decide the runners-up.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>* * *<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>Nanango news:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Most Nanango players were away in Yarraman last weekend.<\/p>\n<p>But in the final of the Men&#8217;s Fours, Brian Havell, Ben Pratap, Athol Jensen and Glen Yeates 24 def Trevor George, Greg Pogson, Trevor Ward and  Mike Wyvill 13. Well done boys!<\/p>\n<p>And in last Friday&#8217;s Scroungers, guess who won? <\/p>\n<p>Yes, it was Ben Pratap, who scored a magnificent 148 points.<\/p>\n<p>Next best were Greg Pogson and Lew Saunders, each with 105.<\/p>\n<p>And in Fridsay&#8217;s social, Bob Hammond, Lew Saunders and Cec Bracken 30 def Joe Aglizzio, Henry Bleisner and Bob Hall 13.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>* * *<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>Esk news:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Esk are hoping for a break in the weather because they have a trip planned to Woongoolba tomorrow.<\/p>\n<p>A busload from Esk will be trying to retain the Friendship Trophy.<\/p>\n<p>The next round of the social Round Robin comes up on April 27 at Gatton <\/p>\n<p>Barefoot bowls on Thursday nights is also proving very popular there, though &#8211; needless to say &#8211; no barefoot bowls were held last Thursday night.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>* * *<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>Kilcoy news:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Kilcoy are still talking about their big Pub Day, which saw a full Green and a new team from Mapleton.<\/p>\n<p>The winners were the local team of Jenny Edwards, Trudi Pratt, Dave Scott, and Col Ferguson.<\/p>\n<p>A couple of championship matches have also been played.<\/p>\n<p>In the Men&#8217;s A singles, Jamie Mitchell defeated Alex McCloskey 25-22 in a very close and hotly contested match.<\/p>\n<p>And in the Ladies A Singles, Margaret Worrall defeated Kathy Hill in another close contest 25-22. <\/p>\n<p>Depending on the weather a couple more matches will be played this weekend &#8211; please check the blackboard at the club house..<\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday, Trophy Day managed to finish before the rain came. <\/p>\n<p>Winners were Fay Vicary, Maxine Parrington and Bill Edwards with 42 points, while Ernie Herbert, Bert Christie and Tracey Evans were runners-up with 38.<\/p>\n<p>Weather permitting, another Webster Shield match will be played at 11:30am players for a 12:30pm start.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>* * *<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>Like South Burnett bowls news?
