Police are investigating an explosion on Owen Street at Dalby.<\/p>\n

Initial investigations reveal that around 2:45pm a parcel exploded when it was opened.<\/p>\n

A Dalby man received serious injuries to his arm and less serious injuries to his upper body and face.<\/p>\n

He was transported to Dalby Hospital.<\/p>\n

Residences within a 50m zone were evacuated and nearby streets closed until police declared the area safe.<\/p>\n

There is no further information at this time.<\/p>\n

Investigations are continuing.<\/p>\n

Acting Inspector Terry McCullough said it was believed the injured man found the parcel at the front of his house.<\/strong><\/p>\n

It is not known if it was left there, delivered by a courier or came through the mail.<\/p>\n

A neighbour alerted emergency services after she heard the explosion.<\/p>\n

Bomb Disposal Investigation Unit from Brisbane and detectives from Dalby are investigating the incident.<\/p>\n

Acting Inspector McCullough confirmed the injured man’s wife died in a car accident during the past 12 months.<\/p>\n
