Parent Get Togethers are planned to be held in Cherbourg in April to help people get the best learning outcomes for their children.<\/p>\n

Lifelong teacher Eric Law, a born and bred Cherbourg man and Catholic Education\u2019s Indigenous Education chairman, will hold the first of the gatherings on April 28 at the Ration Shed Museum in Cherbourg.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019d like for us to get back to the notion that it takes a village to educate a child,\u201d Eric said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn our Indigenous communities, parents are an important part of their children\u2019s learning journey.\u201d<\/p>\n

However, Eric said many parents felt \u201cextremely uncomfortable\u201d within schools.<\/p>\n

He hopes the get-togethers will equip them with the knowledge and confidence to partner teachers.<\/p>\n

This will ensure Cherbourg-Murgon children will be the best they can be at learning.<\/p>\n

\u201cEverybody will be working together in a united approach to improve the children\u2019s learning and future prospects,\u201d Eric said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you have children, parents and teachers working together like a well-oiled machine then you\u2019ll get great education results.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you have one of these groups grind to a stop, or slow the machine, then the results will falter. Some kids will still get good results but they won\u2019t be their best results.\u201d<\/p>\n

Barambah Parental and Community Engagement (PaCE) will provide food for the events.<\/strong><\/p>\n

They will begin with a 9:30am coffee and morning tea and sessions will go for as long as ongoing discussion and information sharing dictates.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s anticipated the get-togethers would include a lunch and a possible 2:00pm finish.<\/p>\n

Barambah PaCE co-ordinator Marcus Priaulx said he hoped to consult with the gatherings at the end of each session to see what type of programs people would like to do to improve Cherbourg\u2019s educational story.<\/p>\n

\u201cEverybody\u2019s future is dictated by the events of the here and now,\u201d Marcus said.<\/p>\n

\u201cTogether we can work to create a great future for not only the children but for everybody in the town.\u201d<\/p>\n
