The South Burnett Pantry and drought relief will benefit from two performances of an Easter Cantata by the South Burnett Chorale on Palm Sunday.<\/p>\n

The Chorale first performed John Peterson\u2019s Easter cantata, \u201cThe Glory of Easter\u201d, last year.<\/p>\n

Conductor Margaret Shepherdson said audiences had requested a repeat from the choir this year.<\/p>\n

\u201cOne audience member told me they were dragged kicking and screaming to our charity performance for flood relief last year but after the first song, was hooked by the sound of the group,\u201d Mrs Shepherdson said.<\/p>\n

\u201cMany hours of rehearsal have resulted in a polished performance by the choir, which has recently had a swell in membership to more than 30.”<\/p>\n

Music lovers will have two opportunities on Palm Sunday (April 13) to experience the South Burnett Chorale: at St Joseph\u2019s Catholic Church in Murgon and at St John\u2019s Lutheran Church in Kingaroy.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Murgon performance will be at 2:30pm and the Kingaroy performance at 6:00pm.<\/p>\n

Peterson\u2019s “Glory of Easter” will be presented with some added extracts from Stainer\u2019s \u201cCrucifixion\u201d.<\/p>\n

All proceeds from the Kingaroy performance will be donated to the South Burnett\u2019s Food Pantry\u2019s aid packages and in Murgon to Drought Relief.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe chose the Food Pantry as beneficiary this year, because they do a great job feeding needy people in the community and they need all the help they can get,\u201d Mrs Shepherson said.<\/p>\n

She said she hoped the South Burnett Chorale\u2019s Easter Cantata performances could become an annual event to aid local charities.<\/p>\n

\u201cFollowing the Biblical story from Passion to Resurrection in such a dramatic, moving and joyous song, these cantatas have the potential to become an annual signature event for this expanding choir and other musicians of the South Burnett, possibly even rivalling the Iona Passion Play one day,\u201d Mrs Shepherdson said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
