Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington is encouraging South Burnett businesses to think “outside the lunchbox” and promote a better lifestyle for their workers through the second round of the State Government\u2019s \u201cWorking for Wellness\u201d grants program.<\/p>\n

The funding program encourages businesses to develop ways to make their workplaces healthier and happier.<\/p>\n

\u201cA healthy workplace benefits everyone. Healthier workers are not only three times more productive, their quality of life is improved at home too,\u201d Mrs Frecklington said.<\/p>\n

\u201cLocal businesses can receive up to $75,000 in funding, from one of five categories of funding available. <\/p>\n

\u201cThey are about encouraging healthy habits and have funded more than 500 workplaces, giving around 33,000 workers the opportunity to improve their health and well-being.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis program caters for a range of workplaces, from those just starting out on their wellness journey to those looking to improve an already established wellness program.<\/p>\n

\u201cApplications for the grants are now open and I encourage all local businesses to take advantage of the opportunity to encourage healthy lifestyles and reduce the risk of chronic illness.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mrs Frecklington said that safety in the workplace didn\u2019t just mean injury prevention, but also promoting healthy diet choices and physical exercise to reduce the risk of chronic disease.<\/p>\n

\u201cAustralian businesses lose an estimated $6.4 billion annually through loss in worker productivity, as a result of obesity alone.<\/p>\n

\u201cSmoking, drinking and poor diet have clear links to absenteeism, low morale and increased workers compensation premiums.<\/p>\n
