A total of 441 vouchers have been issued to families in the Nanango Electorate for children to join local sporting clubs under the State Government’s “Get Started<\/strong><\/a>” program.<\/p>\n

Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington said the latest round of the “Get Started” program had been the most successful to date, with more than 20,000 vouchers issued across Queensland.<\/p>\n

\u201cEach voucher is worth up to $150 and helps families who can least afford it to sign up their children to sports and recreation clubs,\u201d Mrs Frecklington said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m so pleased that 441 young people from my electorate will now be able to participate in a sport and enjoy time being active.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sport Minister Steve Dickson said more than 28 per cent of the applicants who received a voucher had provided feedback that they had not previously played club sport.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s exactly what the Newman Government was striving to deliver through this election commitment\u2014to get more children and young people active,” he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cEven more significantly, around 80 per cent of vouchers issued have gone to Health Care or Pensioner Concession Card holders, the people that need our help the most.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have also received a huge response from clubs this round, with more than 3300 clubs now registered for the program, including at least 70 registrations in the last month.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mr Dickson reminded the successful applicants to ensure their vouchers were redeemed at a Get Started-registered club by May 15.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
