The restarting of Unit 4 at Tarong Power Station is one step closer following the removal of the cracked rotor and its transportation to NSW for repairs.<\/p>\n

When Stanwell employees \u201clifted the lid\u201d on the mothballed Unit 4 earlier this year to inspect the turbine, cracks were detected in the rotor.<\/p>\n

The 48.5 tonne piece of machinery has now been extracted by crane, carefully crated and transported by low-loader to Maitland for repairs.<\/p>\n

This is expected to take several months.<\/p>\n

The rotor will then be returned to Tarong, re-fitted and re-balanced.<\/p>\n

Repairing the rotor is the main critical job before Unit 4 can be restarted.<\/p>\n
