The Kingaroy Lions Club held their annual Lions Youth Of The Year Quest club finals last week.<\/p>\n

The Quest is designed to encourage student interest in leadership and the qualities required to take an active and constructive role in the community.<\/p>\n

Quest entrants are judged on their leadership, sporting, cultural and community interests; personality, general knowledge, academic record, and public speaking.<\/p>\n

This year three competitors from Kingaroy State High School took part: Taylor Crossley, Kate McCormack and Julia Henry.<\/p>\n

All three students had to deliver a prepared five-minute speech on a subject of their choice for the final part of the competition, and the winner was then chosen from a tally of the 100 point assessment process used to judge all applicants.<\/p>\n

Taylor Crossley won the best prepared speech of the evening but the ultimate winner overall on points was Kate McCormack.<\/p>\n

She’ll now go on to compete in the Regional judging and if she wins there, at the District, State and National finals which will be held in May next year.<\/p>\n

The competition is run nationally and is sponsored by the National Australia Bank.<\/p>\n

Major prizes include an international tour for the National Youth Of The Year champion and national tours for all the State finalists, along with scholarships to assist with further education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
