One of South Burnett Directions’ initial projects – a regional Business Excellence Awards dinner – is a step closer with news today that a gala dinner is planned to be held in October.<\/p>\n

South Burnett Directions is the region\u2019s peak economic development body which was officially launched in June 2013. Its three key areas of focus are leadership, liveability and business stability and growth.<\/p>\n

South Burnett Regional Council\u2019s Manager of Economic Development Phil Harding said the group met this week.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis month\u2019s meeting was extremely productive with presentations from South Burnett Direction\u2019s project working groups,” he said.<\/p>\n

“Projects have been scoped, documented and have been kicked off ready for the launch of the South Burnett Direction\u2019s website and newsletter.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Business Excellence Awards is one working group and they have completed their project outline.<\/p>\n

“It aims to conduct awards to assist businesses to prosper and be recognised by a judging panel announcing winners at a Gala Dinner to be held in October.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe group will now be seeking funding support for the awards before asking for nominations from businesses.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe South Burnett has a lot of businesses that are operating at an elite level. These awards are an opportunity to showcase the businesses in the region.\u201d<\/p>\n

The first draft of the South Burnett Economic Development Strategy was also put to the meeting. This will now be circulated for comment across the region.<\/p>\n

South Burnett Directions is also working closely with Wide Bay Burnett Regional Organisation of Councils to identify telecommunications black spots.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe connectivity working group will survey South Burnett residents to gather information on broadband and mobile communications black spots. This information will complement the black spot research recently undertaken by Council,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cSouth Burnett Directions is also working on a transport and road connectivity project. We are seeking input from primary producers and transport businesses to gain an understanding of transport issues effecting the transport of produce in the region.\u201d<\/p>\n

Shane Charles, CEO of the Toowoomba and Surat Basin Enterprise, and Phil Gregory, General Manager Brisbane West Wellcamp Airport, were guest speakers at the March meeting.<\/p>\n
