A couple of welcome showers of rain settled the dust at Saturday’s Cooyar Show but weren’t enough to get show organisers worried or local farmers excited.<\/p>\n

Cooyar Agricultural Society president Tom Gillies told southburnett.com.au<\/strong>\u00a0the rain – which everyone wants – didn’t cause any problems for the show.<\/p>\n

He was very happy with the way the show went off, and although gate figures were yet to be worked out, he believed the numbers were comparable with last year.<\/p>\n

Mr Gillies said every year the Show Society tried to do something “a little bit different”.<\/p>\n

“This year we had ‘Rooftop Express’ who were at last year’s Ekka,” he said.<\/p>\n

“Rooftop” refers to the fact that the comedy duo can entice bullocks up onto the roof of a gooseneck truck.<\/p>\n

Other highlights at the 2014 Cooyar Show included a post-ripping competition, a shearing demonstration and the always-popular Bull Ride in the evening.<\/p>\n

Mr Gillies said pavilion entries were down a bit “but what would your expect with this drought”.<\/p>\n

Steward Paul Cronin was pleased with the entries in the equestrian competitions, especially in the ponies section where numbers were up.<\/p>\n

The show was officially opened by legendary Queensland Country Life cattle market analyst and columnist Stan Wallace.<\/p>\n
