Staff at Kingaroy Hospital are eagerly awaiting the arrival of two jaundice detector machines.<\/p>\n

The Kingaroy Hospital Auxiliary Inc has donated $8700 to purchase the machines. One \u00a0will be housed at Kingaroy Hospital and the other will be used by a Community Nurse who makes home visits to babies in the South Burnett.<\/p>\n

Nurse Unit Manager of the Women\u2019s and Children\u2019s Department at Kingaroy Hospital, Mrs Stacey Smith, welcomed the new equipment.<\/p>\n

\u201cNewborn babies, staff and new parents will love the new machines, as nursing staff will no longer be required to prick a baby\u2019s heel to determine if it has jaundice,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cInstead, the machine is held near the baby\u2019s skin and the machine detects whether the baby has jaundice. The new procedure is painless and can be done very quickly.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kingaroy Hospital Auxiliary Treasurer Mrs Alison Murray said the $8700 was raised from profits made at the Kingaroy Hospital Canteen and from the sale of Mother and Father Birthing books.<\/p>\n

In other news, renovations to the Kingaroy Hospital Canteen (formerly the Red Cross Room) have now been completed and disabled access is available via a ramp on the side of the building nearest the top car park.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Canteen Convenor Mr David Morton put out a call for volunteers to help with the canteen.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe would welcome anyone interested in helping in the canteen, as we can often be short-staffed when our volunteers decide to take holidays at the same time,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The hospital canteen is open weekdays from 9:00am to 2:00pm. The canteen sells light meals, drinks, coffee and cake to the general public, as well as hospital staff and patients.\u201d<\/p>\n
