The Nanango High School Hall was abuzz with excitement on Saturday when the Nanango Stamp Club hosted its 20th annual Stamp Day.<\/p>\n

Keen collectors proved that while the post may be slowly dying as the world’s preferred medium of communication, the hobby of stamp collecting is still as strong as ever.<\/p>\n

Nanango’s Stamp Day is run in early February every year.<\/p>\n

It is one of 20 similar events held around south-east Queensland which are organised by stamp clubs from Bundaberg to the Gold Coast as club fundraisers.<\/p>\n

This year, 16 clubs visited Nanango to display their club books (a good place for collectors to find cheap stamps for their collections).<\/p>\n

There were also three professional stamp dealers in attendance.<\/p>\n

Other highlights of the day included a philatelic auction, a cent auction, a bargain table and a very busy canteen.<\/p>\n

Entry to the event was free and collectors were welcome to come and buy stamps, browse the collections on display or simply talk to the dealers or other hobbyists.<\/p>\n

Some collectors also took the opportunity to bring along their own collections for a free appraisal – a service the dealers have provided to Nanango Stamp Club members for many years.<\/p>\n

The Nanango Stamp Club itself is a small group but its members collect anything from the stamps of particular countries through to thematics (that is, stamps on a particular subject, such as butterflies, orchids, dogs or photography).<\/p>\n

The club meets regularly in Nanango and new members are always welcome.<\/p>\n

The next Stamp Day will be held on the first Saturday in February 2015.<\/p>\n
