There’s a reason why Nanango’s new a la carte restaurant is named after a woolshed, and it’s quite romantic.<\/p>\n

Owners Paul and Sharron Lowe met in western Queensland, in sheep country.<\/p>\n

Paul, recently arrived from the UK, was doing mustering when he ran into then-flight attendant Sharron who was briefly out west visiting relatives.<\/p>\n

The Woolshed Restaurant is located at The Commercial Hotel on the corner of Fitzroy and Drayton streets.<\/p>\n

It has its own private entrance in Drayton Street which means diners don’t have to walk through the bar.<\/p>\n

The main area – which can seat 34 – is decorated to reflect the woolshed theme.<\/p>\n

“We have tried to keep it simple but classy,” Paul said.<\/p>\n

Across the corridor is a smaller lounge room where patrons can hold intimate functions or enjoy a drink in front of the open fire before their meal.<\/p>\n

“We are trying to offer something different in Nanango,” Paul said.<\/p>\n

Also different is diners won’t find a fast food favourite on the menu.<\/p>\n

“There’s definitely no chips,” Paul said. “A restaurant should not serve chips!”<\/p>\n

Mains include lamb racks (naturally), stuffed chicken breast, home-made pasta, Angus rumps and kangaroo fillet; there’s also a children’s menu which includes homemade pizza and vegetable and noodle stirfry.<\/p>\n

Paul and Sharron married in 2008 and almost immediately moved to the South Burnett.<\/p>\n

Initially, Paul worked for another Nanango hotel before taking up a position at Utopia Cafe in Kingaroy.<\/p>\n

After a break, he decided to open his own restaurant.<\/p>\n

If life running a restaurant – and raising two children, Daniel 6, and Chloe, 4 – isn’t enough for the couple they also both work full-time which means The Woolshed is open only three nights a week: Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights from 6:00pm with bookings recommended to ensure a table.<\/p>\n
