To help get the Kumbia community into the spirit for next month’s Centenary Celebrations – and to help raise some cash for the event – the Blackbutt Singers put on a live show in the Kumbia Hall on Saturday afternoon.<\/p>\n

The group performed popular songs selected from their 20 years of performances, complete with rapid costume changes behind the stage.<\/p>\n

Centenary Committee president Jim Hancock<\/strong> said today it had been a very successful afternoon and everyone had enjoyed themselves very much.<\/p>\n

Planning for Kumbia’s Centenary, which will be celebrated on Saturday, July 28, is well under way.<\/p>\n

The fun will start at 9:00am and will extend all day in and around the Kumbia Hall.<\/p>\n

There’ll be loads of old-fashioned fun including traditional games for the children such as sack races, three-legged races and egg and spoon races.<\/p>\n

Adults will enjoy the tug-o-war and a limited overs cricket match will be played on the oval behind the hall.<\/p>\n

As well as all the usual market stalls and displays, there’ll be whip-cracking, pie and lamington eating competitions, a china tea cup competition, a cooking competition and an apron competition.<\/p>\n

The Bunya Highway will be closed (with diversions around town for the highway traffic) to allow the street parade to take place at noon.<\/p>\n

Between 3:30pm and 4:30pm, a “wife carrying” race will be held near the hall. This will be based on the Wife Carrying World Championships but the partners don’t have to be married, and the men don’t have to carry “their” wife (any wife will do!).<\/p>\n

Kumbia’s Historical Walk – which identifies the past history of the town with plaques – will also be officially launched on the day.<\/p>\n

The evening concert, which will feature all local performers, will begin at 7:00pm.<\/p>\n
