The huge Kings Royal weekend of speedway racing roared into life on Friday night in Kingaroy, promising three days of action for fans.<\/p>\n

And while many people in the local region are still hoping for rain, the South Burnett Speedway Club will have everything crossed that it stays dry for at least a couple more days following last year’s washout of their crowning event.<\/p>\n

The highlight at the Lucas Oil Kingaroy Speedway will be the final of the Kings Royal, the biggest and richest Modified Production event ever held in Australia.<\/p>\n

Drivers who make it through to the 50-lap race on Sunday night will be competing for a $10,000 first prize.<\/p>\n

Seventy-seven competitors have nominated, including some of the biggest names in Australian speedway racing such as Australian champion Aidan Raymont, former Australian champion Max Clarke and NSW champ David Jacobi.<\/p>\n

South Burnett drivers are also strongly represented, including Brett and Ashley Barron, Stephen Geritz, Shane and Josh Wicks, Josh Harm, David and Nathan Barbeler, TJ Horne and Jason Schloss.<\/p>\n

Travis Barron, from the South Burnett Speedway Club, said that realistically any one of 20 drivers could take out the top prize.<\/p>\n

Aussie champ Aidan Raymont told southburnett.com.au<\/strong> he would be disappointed if he didn’t finish in the top five; NSW star David Jacobi was more philosophical. Asked if he was confident, he replied: “Me and another 76 guys.”<\/p>\n

Also decided on the weekend will be the Australian Production Sedan Grand Prix which has attracted more than 40 of Queensland’s best production car drivers for the two-night event.<\/p>\n

Junior Sedans (competing in the South Burnett Junior Nationals), microsprints and 4 Cylinder Sedans (in the Ollies Towing Peanut Crown) will also be taking to the track.<\/p>\n

Modified Sedans, Junior Sedans and Microsprints kicked off the excitement on Friday night.<\/p>\n

On Saturday night, Modified Sedans and Junior Sedans will return and be joined by Production Sedans and 4 Cylinders. Early racing starts at 4:00pm with Modified Sedan heats from 5:30pm.<\/p>\n

On Sunday night, the finals of the Kings Royal, Australian Grand Prix and Ollies Towing Peanut Crown will be decided with racing from 5:00pm.<\/p>\n
