A lightning strike at the height of yesterday afternoon’s wild storms has been blamed for a fire which has burned out between 400 and 500ha at Ironpot.<\/p>\n

The fire broke out in the vicinity of Ironpot and Jumma roads about 4:00pm.<\/p>\n

An Emergency Services spokesperson said a Triple 0 caller alerted authorities after spotting a grass fire “burning in the distance”.<\/p>\n

About 13 fire crews attended the scene, including the emergency strike team currently based in Kingaroy.<\/p>\n

Waterbombing aircraft were also called in to assist.<\/p>\n

Firefighters worked on the fire throughout the night, putting in firebreaks and doing backburning.<\/p>\n

No homes were under threat.<\/p>\n

At 10:30am this morning, the fire was reported to be “smouldering” within containment lines, with no active flames.<\/p>\n
