It’s been a big few days for the Kingaroy RSPCA … firstly, the shelter team came home from the RSPCA’s inaugural Queensland awards night with a brace of honours and then on Saturday, “furr-ever” homes were found for a group of kittens in a special promotion at Kingaroy Shoppingworld.<\/p>\n

The awards were announced at Mt Ommaney Golf Club on Thursday night.<\/p>\n

The Kingaroy shelter won the RSPCA President’s Award for its successful desexing campaign, and Shelter manager Sally Charles was named the Humane Society of the United States scholarship winner.<\/p>\n

The Kingaroy shelter was also runner-up for Shelter Of The Year.<\/p>\n

The scholarship means Sally will be flown to Daytona in the United States on an all-expenses paid trip in May to attend a Humane Society conference and visit US animal shelters.<\/p>\n

“I am pretty chuffed to have won it,” Sally said, “but it’s really a credit to everyone at the shelter and the work we do.”<\/p>\n

On Saturday, Sally and colleague Stef Gavioli were being kept busy in Kingaroy Shoppingworld with seven little kittens looking for homes.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Sally said the Kingaroy Shelter was running a “cat and kitten campaign” as they had 87 animals currently in care.<\/p>\n

Kittens are $199 (or two for $300) which includes desexing, council registration and a kitten “starter pack” valued at $70. Cats are $50.<\/p>\n

“Today is all about raising awareness about the RSPCA – there are some people who do not even realise there is an RSPCA in town,” Sally said.<\/p>\n

“It’s also about showing off the kittens and hopefully finding them homes.”<\/p>\n
