The Kumbia QCWA branch has stitched together an interesting fundraising idea to help the Kingaroy Hospital.<\/p>\n

The branch was presented with two single bed quilts recently by a club member to use as a fundraiser.<\/p>\n

Branch member Mollie Kratzmann told southburnett.com.au<\/strong> the two quilts – valued at $1000 – were simply too good to waste on a small club raffle.<\/p>\n

So the group approached Kingaroy Hospital and asked if there was anything special they could raise funds for that the hospital really needed.<\/p>\n

The answer came back … a bladder scanner.<\/p>\n

This piece of equipment, which will cost about $15,000, will stop elderly patients – and people recovering from surgery – having catheters inserted to measure the volume of urine. This invasive procedure is necessary but can be painful for patients and is time-consuming for medical staff.<\/p>\n

Mrs Kratzmann said a visiting specialist at the hospital had suggested the scanner be purchased.<\/p>\n

Tickets in the special raffle are being sold by QCWA members at Shoppingworld on one day a week until the draw.<\/p>\n

They are also available from Kingaroy Lions Club members, at the Kingaroy RSL and from the South Burnett Lodge.<\/p>\n

The quilts were made by Joyce Dickenson, a member of the Kumbia branch.<\/p>\n

The winner will be drawn at the Kumbia branch’s 90th birthday party which will be held at the Kumbia QCWA Rooms in Bell Street, Kumbia, from 2:00pm on March 22.<\/p>\n
