January 16, 2014<\/strong><\/p>\n

The 2014 South Burnett rugby league season is starting to take shape with the release today of the proposed draw for the senior competition which will get underway on March 22.<\/p>\n

Five senior South Burnett teams have been confirmed to be taking part: Cherbourg, Kingaroy, Murgon, Nanango and Wondai.<\/p>\n

All games will be either double or triple headers.<\/p>\n

Central and North Burnett teams Mundubbera, Gayndah, Eidsvold and Monto will be participating in five rounds, culminating in the Burnett Shield Final (South Burnett 1 v Central Burnett 1) and Plate Final (South Burnett 2 v Central Burnett 2) which will be played at Gayndah on June 21.<\/p>\n

The Major and Minor semi-finals are scheduled for August 16 at Kingaroy, with the Preliminary final at Murgon on August 23 and the Grand Final at Cherbourg on August 30.<\/p>\n

A highlight of the year for local League fans could well be a round of the State competition, the Queensland Cup, pencilled in to be played in Kingaroy on August 9.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Kingaroy Red Ants have applied to host a round during “country week” (Round 23) but no decision on the venue has yet been made by the QRL.<\/p>\n

However, just in case the bid is successful, the August 9 weekend has been scheduled to be a double header in Kingaroy to create a big day of football.<\/p>\n

South Burnett Junior Rugby League Operation\/Administration Officer Lisa Weir said the shape of the U18s competition was yet to be decided with three options under consideration depending on the number of teams: a local competition or teams competing in the Bundaberg or Sunshine Coast competitions.<\/p>\n

The rest of the junior draw will be released within the next few weeks.<\/p>\n
