The application date for the inaugural Vision 21 \/ Red Earth Community Foundation leadership training program to be held in the South Burnett has been extended to Monday (January 20).<\/p>\n

The four-day intensive training program – which is designed to shape the future leaders of the region and build local leadership skills – will be held on February 16-18 and March 16-18 at the Bunya Mountains and is strictly limited to between 15 and 28 participants.<\/p>\n

Vision 21 chair Heather Ellis, one of the founders of the program, said research had shown that regions with a leadership program were more able to cope with disasters.<\/p>\n

“In our region, this is an essential skill, so this is just one great reason to have our own community leadership program here in the South Burnett,” she said.<\/p>\n

Ms Ellis said her experience in the former Building Rural Leaders program had opened doors for her to new opportunities, as well as further study and a new career.<\/p>\n

“Learning about change and how we manage it, as well as becoming more effective in my work were just two of the many tools I gained from the program,” she said.<\/p>\n

“We know the program will provide participants with a strong working relationship with others from across the South Burnett, as well as knowledge of the opportunities available in the region.<\/p>\n

“Increased confidence in leading yourself and others, as well as enhanced communication skills are often a result of leadership programs, too.”<\/p>\n

The program has come about through a partnership between Vision 21, the Red Earth Community Foundation and McAllister Leadership.<\/p>\n

Applications are invited from individuals, employers who would like to send staff, or community organisations.<\/p>\n

The $2090 fee includes tuition, accommodation and catering but there may be a limited number of subsidised positions available for people who cannot afford the full cost.<\/p>\n
