Kingaroy RSL’s\u00a0Anthony Eden has been starring with the bat for Queensland in the Australian Country Cricket Championships currently being played in the ACT.<\/p>\n

Eden is listed in the Top 10 batsmen for Best Batting and Best Batting Average across the interstate competition.<\/p>\n

So far, he has scored 27 against WA Country, 85 off just 76 balls (including seven 4s and one 6) against East-Asia Pacific, 45 against Vic Country, and 49 off 50 balls faced yesterday against SA Country.<\/p>\n

In today’s T20 match played against NSW Country, Eden was unlucky to be judged LBW for one run after facing just five balls.<\/p>\n

The Commonwealth Bank Australian Country Cricket Championships is an annual tournament which showcases the best cricket talent from regional areas around Australia and \u00a0the East Asia Pacific region.<\/p>\n

* * *<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/strong>The Southern Stars women’s cricket team has lost its sole Ashes Test against England, played in a see-sawing contest over four days\u00a0<\/strong>at the WACA ground in Perth.<\/strong><\/p>\n

England, who won the toss and elected to bat, finished on top by 61 runs despite a valiant effort with the bat and ball by NSW star Elyse Perry who scored 71 in the first innings and also top-scored in the second with 31 runs.<\/p>\n

Perry also took 3\/41 and 5\/38 to bring the Australians to within 12 runs of England at one stage.<\/p>\n

Australia were all out for 123 & 207; while England finished with 190 & 201.<\/p>\n

The loss means Australia must now win five out of the next six limited-overs matches in the multi-format series to reclaim the Women\u2019s Ashes trophy.<\/p>\n

Kingaroy’s Holly Ferling finished with bowling figures of 1\/46 off 12 overs, with two maidens, in the first innings; and 0\/39 off 13 overs, with three maidens, in the second.<\/p>\n

Ferling got off to a good start, taking the valuable wicket of England opener Heather Knight for 14 runs.<\/p>\n

The next match in the Ashes series will be a ODI played at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on January 19.<\/p>\n

Cricket returned to South Burnett grounds at the weekend after the festive break.<\/strong><\/p>\n

At Kingaroy State School, Wooroolin Warriors defeated Kingaroy RSL in their B Grade match.<\/p>\n

Warriors batted first with Shane Gray knocking out 60 of the team’s 102 runs. Allan Christensen (10) and Hayden Wieck (9) also chipped in to help.<\/p>\n

Best of the RSL bowlers were Jack Hourn (2\/2), Bryan Walters (2\/11) and Peter Hourn (2\/15).<\/p>\n

In reply, Kingaroy RSL made a total of 98, with Chris O’Rourke top-scoring with 24. \u00a0Louis Fairbairn (15) and Matt Patroni (13) were the next best.<\/p>\n

Warriors’ bowlers James Dundas (2\/5), Troy Miller (2\/10) and Stuart Lavaring (2\/13) did the damage.<\/p>\n
