The State Government has named the advisers who will undertake “scoping studies and market soundings” to investigate future options for Queensland’s to government-owned power generators.<\/p>\n

The successful proponents are:<\/strong><\/p>\n

    \n
  • CS Energy and Stanwell studies<\/strong> \u2013 Lazard<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
      \n
    • Ergon, Energex and Powerlink private sector funding<\/strong> \u2013 Rothschild and Bank of America Merrill Lynch<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
        \n
      • Energy markets advisers<\/strong> (generator\/retailer business) \u2013 Energy Edge and ACIL Allen<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

        \u201cThese advisers will start work immediately and will provide us with information on the commercial and regulatory issues that might arise if the Government made a decision to sell or lease government businesses,\u201d Treasurer Tim Nicholls said.<\/p>\n

        \u201cTheir findings will form the basis for a considered and mature conversation with Queenslanders about the future of these businesses.<\/p>\n

        \u201cThis action is in line with the government\u2019s response to the Commission of Audit and the studies are the first step in considering how the government can reduce the black cloud of debt that hangs over Queensland\u2019s future.\u201d<\/p>\n

        Mr Nicholls said the Government wanted to look at options that would free up funds for future infrastructure and better services, as well as pay down debt.<\/p>\n

        “The government isn\u2019t rushing into any decisions but rather going through a planned and methodical process to ensure we get the best outcomes for securing Queensland\u2019s financial future.\u201d<\/p>\n
