South Burnett Regional Council and Cherbourg Aboriginal Shire Council will discuss working in partnership to facilitate recycling in the South Burnett.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have started discussions to work in partnership with Cherbourg Aboriginal Shire Council to have a combined transfer station and bins at all of our tip sites for recycling,\u201d South Burnett councillor Kathy Duff said.<\/p>\n

\u201cCherbourg currently has a recycling plant.<\/p>\n

“They will conduct testing in the New Year to assess how much waste they can handle. We will continue discussions in the New Year dependent on the outcome of Cherbourg\u2019s report.<\/p>\n

\u201cSouth Burnett Regional Council will then look at potentially supporting an application by the Cherbourg Council to collect recyclable refuse from the South Burnett.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe initial discussions with Cherbourg Council have gone very well and we are heading in the direction that this partnership may assist us in providing recycling options for our residents.\u201d<\/p>\n

South Burnett Regional Council recently decided to postpone the introduction of kerbside recycling through a two-bin system due to the cost involved.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen we decided to postpone the introduction of recycling we made a commitment to looking at other more cost effective ways to recycle,\u201d Mayor Wayne Kratzmann said.<\/p>\n

\u201cOne of the options put forward was to have bins at our waste collection facilities for those that want to take their recycleable goods.<\/p>\n

“This potential partnership with Cherbourg Council is certainly a step in the right direction to offering our residents a cost-effective recycling option in the future.\u201d<\/p>\n
