If you think you’re busy this Christmas, spare a thought for police who are working hard to make sure that our busy streets don’t translate into even more road deaths.<\/p>\n

Kingaroy police are currently ramping up patrols and there’s a promise to motorists … if you’re found breaking the law, “action will be taken”.<\/p>\n

“There’ll be no warnings,” Kingaroy officer-in-charge Senior Sergeant Duane Frank told southburnett.com.au<\/strong><\/p>\n

As well as targeting speeders, police are concentrating on drink and drugged drivers, and motorists disobeying basic traffic signs.<\/p>\n

“The majority of crashes this year could have been avoided if drivers had been doing the right thing,” Snr Sgt Frank said.<\/p>\n

Drivers also had to remember they were responsible for the behaviour of their passengers.<\/p>\n

And as well as obeying the speed limit, they should also aim to always drive safely and “to the conditions”.<\/p>\n

So far this year, 264 people have died on Queensland roads, including 43 motorcycle riders and 20 pedestrians.<\/p>\n

Police Commissioner Ian Stewart said his officers would be out in force all over Queensland during the Christmas holiday period, focusing on the Fatal Five.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you speed, drink drive, don\u2019t pay attention, don\u2019t wear a seatbelt or drive while tired you will not only be caught by police, but you risk your life and the life of every other road user \u2013 and that is just not acceptable,\u201d Commissioner Stewart said.<\/p>\n

\u201cUnfortunately some drivers take unnecessary risks when using Queensland roads \u2013 some of which end in disaster \u2013 whether this is serious injury or fatalities.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe community\u2019s safety is our priority and police will continue to target motorists who break the law.\u201d<\/p>\n
