Blackbutt’s annual Christmas celebrations – which have been organised for the past 13 years by the Blackbutt Benarkin Lions Club – \u00a0drew to a close on Saturday after a week of events.<\/p>\n

The culmination of activities was a celebration in Les Muller Park where Santa Claus dropped in to visit the children, and the “mystery” Celebrity Citizen of the Year was named.<\/p>\n

Ivan Panzram, from the\u00a0Blackbutt Benarkin Lions Club, presented the award to Janice Millar for her work with the Anglican Church Social Committee.<\/p>\n

Janice, who had been toiling behind the scenes in the kitchen at Memorial Hall, was “tricked” by her colleagues into going down to \u00a0Les Muller Park and was stunned when she was presented with a certificate and a bunch of flowers.<\/p>\n

The week of festive celebrations kicked off last Sunday with a Christmas concert, \u00a0“Sing Songs Of Joy At Christmas” \u00a0led by the Blackbutt Singers with guest artists Vocal Mayhem.<\/p>\n

Then on Monday, Friends Of Cultcha opened their final monthly exhibition for 2013 at the Blackbutt Art Gallery Space inside the Archie Muir Centre.<\/p>\n

On Thursday,\u00a0the annual\u00a0Free Over 60s Christmas Lunch\u00a0for Blackbutt and Benarkin residents was held in the Community Hall. This Blackbutt Christmas Festival tradition provides a free Christmas lunch for Blackbutt’s senior citizens, along with multi-draw raffles and live entertainment.<\/p>\n

The annual annual\u00a0Arts & Crafts Fair opened on Friday in the hall. This ran until noon on Saturday and attracted stalls from local artists and craftspeople.<\/p>\n

Nanango businesses also joined in the Christmas spirit, taking part in a “decorated window” competition.<\/p>\n
