Queenslanders have just one day left to share their vision for the State\u2019s electricity future.<\/p>\n

Energy Minister Mark McArdle said the consultation period for the 30-year Electricity Strategy discussion paper would close on Friday.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is the last opportunity for Queenslanders to put forward their ideas and share their vision in shaping the 30-year electricity strategy, to be released next year,\u201d Mr McArdle said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re encouraging Queenslanders to think outside the box. Regardless of how electricity is made, moved and consumed in the future, it is certain it will remain essential to our way of life and economic development.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mr McArdle said there had been a great response to the discussion paper so far and there was still time to have a say.<\/p>\n

\u201cAlready, 586 people have completed the ‘consumer’ survey and we have received more than 30 formal submissions,\u201d he said.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cMore than 2600 people have viewed the web page and more than 1300 discussion papers have been downloaded.<\/p>\n

Mr McArdle said the discussion paper also sought public submissions to address the electricity sector\u2019s immediate challenges.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis includes improving competition in retail markets, strengthening customer protections, reviewing electricity rebates and reforming tariffs to address costs and provide customers with greater control,\u201d Mr McArdle said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Newman Government needs input from Queensland businesses, farmers and households to develop a viable electricity strategy.<\/p>\n

\u201cHaving a strong electricity supply system relies on government, industry and consumers working together and the Newman Government is committed to developing a way forward on key issues.\u201d<\/p>\n
