Submissions to the State Government are calling for a higher speed limit on the D’Aguilar Highway between Blackbutt and Moore\u00a0<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The speed limit on the D’Aguilar Highway between Blackbutt and Moore will be examined following a recent call for submissions on speed limits by the State Government.<\/p>\n

The speed limit on the section, which includes the recently rebuilt Blackbutt Range crossing, was identified in submissions as being too low.<\/p>\n

It is now one of 100 Queenslands roads which will be reviewed by safety engineers to determine whether the speed limit should be altered.<\/p>\n

Transport and Main Roads Minister Scott Emerson said this was the first major review of Queensland speed limits that has been conducted since 1997 and was part of the State Government\u2019s commitment to improving safety on our roads.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe list has been narrowed down to 100 roads \u2013 68 State-controlled and 32 local roads – following more than 3300 submissions,\u201d Mr Emerson said.<\/p>\n

\u201cOn almost 70 roads the majority of responses called for an increase in speed limits.<\/p>\n

\u201cExpert safety engineers will now conduct inspections to determine what changes need to be made to improve safety and deliver on our commitment to revitalise front line services.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe review identified roads all over Queensland including the Peak Downs Highway, Warrego Highway, Logan Motorway, Gateway Motorway, Pacific Motorway and a number of sections of the Bruce Highway.<\/p>\n

\u201cRoads were prioritised based on frequency of public nominations, crash data, local knowledge and recent maintenance and upgrades.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mr Emerson said each road would be reviewed in line with Queensland\u2019s speed limit setting guidelines with consideration given to traffic, pedestrians and infrastructure.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe review aims to simplify the speed limit setting process and apply consistent speed limits across Queensland,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The speed limit reviews will be completed by mid 2014 and the results will be published on the Transport and Main Roads website when available.<\/p>\n
