A 15-year-old Kingaroy girl and 14-year-old Kingaroy boy will appear in Kingaroy Children’s Court later this month charged with wilful damage following a police investigation into graffiti scrawled on the Kingaroy War Memorial.<\/p>\n

The graffiti, which was written on the monuments in black pen, appeared shortly before the Remembrance Day service on November 11.<\/p>\n

Three names had been added to the 1914-18 Roll of Honour on the main catafalque and graffiti of a sexual nature written on top of one of the other monuments.<\/p>\n

Senior Sergeant Duane Frank, officer-in-charge of Kingaroy Police, said police issued two of the children on Saturday with a notice to appear in court.<\/p>\n

A third youth had also been identified and would be dealt with by police at a later stage.<\/p>\n

“It’s a disgusting offence,” Senior Sergeant Frank said.<\/p>\n

Kingaroy-Memerambi\u00a0RSL Sub-Branch president Don Davey couldn’t agree more.<\/p>\n

He wondered why anyone would be so stupid – or so in need of recognition – that they would add their names to a list of soldiers who had fought for their country in World War I.<\/p>\n

And sadly, he said, this wasn’t the only graffiti attack the memorial has suffered in recent months.<\/p>\n

There was more vandalism at the area just after Anzac Day and as far as he was aware, these offenders had not been located.<\/p>\n
